Vanitas series, responding to dark 17th century still-life emphasising transience of life and the pointless quest for power and glory. Printmaking as iterative visual thinking, where light and shadow transform the three-dimensional world into two-dimensional image, via the silhouette and its reverse, using a porous boundary between object and shadow, mirroring the relationship between plate, print and ghost image. Initial work undertaken during production residency at Masereel Centrum, Belgium thinking about the link between climate change, historic commodity and exchange routes of plants and plant hunters, and capitalism’s perpetual economic growth.
